More than 8 million people voted for the Constituent Assembly in Venezuela.

The President of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega and the Vice President Rosario Murillo congratulated the electoral process in Venezuela, where more than 8 million people voted.

What Mainstream Media Got Wrong About Venezuela's Constituent Assembly Vote

In a statement, the Nicaraguan government expressed its respect for Venezuela's "right to self-determination and peace."

It also highlighted "all its strength, the challenges to our incomparable tradition of rebellion and affirmation of its own authority regarding our destinies, and the models chosen for peaceful coexistence, development, and social justice."

The Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, FMLN, which leads the government of El Salvador also published a statement in support of Venezuela. The group congratulated Venezuelans for showing "dignity, democratic vocation, and unparalleled patriotism."

"The FMLN salutes and recognizes the historic triumph" of the Venezuelans, says the published letter.

The World Reacts to Venezuela's Historic Constituent Assembly

Bolivian President Evo Morales expressed his continued support for Venezuela, arguing that aggression against Venezuela's democracy is an act of aggression against the whole of Latin America.

Social movements across Mexico and Central America likewise expressed their strong solidarity with Venezuela's fight to ensure its sovereignty and ensure the safeguarding of democratic order in the country.

About 300 delegates from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, Cuba and Costa Rica signed a statement declaring their support for the democratically-elected government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The statement welcomed the National Constituent Assembly amid widespread aggression mounted by various media, political and economic actors hostile to the Bolivarian process.
