The Caribbean Strong Foundation, CSF, is hosting the Trinidad and Tobago Relief Concert and Telethon next week to raise funds for Antigua, Barbuda and Dominica, islands severely hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria in September.
The all-day event will take place at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain. Machel Montano will headline. The list of performers also includes Bunji Garlin, Fay Ann Lyons, Kes, Destra, Ravi B and Karma, Rikki Jai, Olatunji, SuperBlue, Teddyson John, Patrice Roberts, Nailah Blackman, Chuck Gordon, Shal Marshall and Aaron Duncan. In all, over 100 artists will perform.
“All the powerful genres of music in T&T (Trinidad & Tobago) will be represented as well as some from across the Caribbean," Tony Chow Lin On, a CSF leader, said.
He added that CSF is applying for permanent non-profit status to provide help for future natural disasters.
Event-goers can expect to donate a minimum of US$100 to the cause and can also donate non-perishable food items upon entry.
Chow Lin On and other CSF founders visited Dominica just after Hurricane Maria wiped out the island.
“We got a first hand look of the damage done. We flew up relief items and were accompanied by Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne," he said.
“Even though people lost everything, there is a will to get back what was lost. The spirit of the Dominicans is strong and alive and they are determined to fight to rebuild their country.”
Organizers will put on a similar fundraising concert on Oct. 29th in Antigua and will feature a list of top Caribbean artists, including Shaggy and Tessanne Chin.
