The Central Committee of California Democratic Party passed a resolution urging President Barack Obama to repeal the decree that imposed sanctions on Venezuela and branded the country an "extraordinary threat” to the United States.
In March, President Obama issued Executive Order 13692, which characterized the South American nation as an "unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”
Resolution 15-05.55 of the U.S. state’s Democratic Party blasted the measure, saying, “false declaration that a country poses a national security threat to the United States violates domestic and international law and serves only to further isolate the United States in the region”

The resolution, which was passed on Aug. 16 at the Summer/Fall 2015 E-board Meeting, called on “President Obama to withdraw immediately, the declaration that Venezuela poses a national security threat to the United States and the sanctions the declaration purports to justify.”
The U.S. decree was widely condemned across the world, especially in Latin America where UNASUR, the Union of South American Nations, and CELAC, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, passed unanimous resolutions calling on President Obama to repeal the declaration.
In recent months, both countries have moved towards bettering relations, although Venezuelan leaders say U.S. officials are continuing to provide support to opposition groups.
In a taped video released earlier this month, an opposition activist, who is the primary suspect in the brutal murder of a woman found raped and dismembered, revealed an network of contacts between far-right politicians in the United States, Colombia, opposition Venezuelan activists and paramilitary groups. Right-wing U.S. lawmaker Marco Rubio and the charge d'affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Phil Laidlaw, were also said to be involved.
