Paraguay, the only other Latin American countries who were fighting to qualify to play in the 2018 World Cup, was eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Venezuela.
In the Concacaf division, Panama gained a spot by defeating Costa Rica and Honduras won over Mexico.
The United States meanwhile will remain absent for the first time since 1986 after losing 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago.
