The Mexican airline wrote in a Twitter post that it was still investigating the flight AM2431, but no further details were added. The aircraft was an Embraer 190 plane, with a capacity of 100 passengers, and it reportedly crashed just about five minutes after lifting

“We're working to collect additional information and we will provide more details as soon as they're available and they're confirmed. Our priority is to guarantee the security of the clients and onboard tripulation and we're working on that.”

Governor Jose Rosas Aispuro wrote on Twitter that there were no official figures on deaths or injuries yet, but TeleSUR's correspondent in Mexico Eduardo Martinez said local media is reporting at least 80 wounded.

“We report the crash of an @Aeromexico plane in Durango, Mexico. National media speaks about at least 80 wounded. It transported 100 people on board.”

"The plane was taking off," said Rosas Aispuro, adding that witnesses told him there was "a bang" and then without warning the plane was on the ground.

Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexico's Communications and Transports Secretary, tweeted the plane crashed at about 4 p.m. while flying to Mexico City. He reported 97 passengers on board and 4 crew members.

Shortly after taking off, the plane made an emergency landing about six miles (10 km) from the airport, Alejandro Cardoza, a spokesman for the state's civil protection agency, said on local television.

The President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto said he gave instructions to the military to help in the rescue operations in Durango and hoped everyone on board was alright.

According to Reuters, TV images showed the tail of a plan bearing an Aeromexico logo emerging from scrubland and a column of smoke rising into the sky. A reporter for network Milenio said some passengers had survived and walked to a highway to seek help.
