ALBA Reactivates Fund Supporting Migrants Living in US

The nations of the Latin American and Caribbean social, political and economic integration bloc ALBA reactivated a joint fund meant to provide legal advice and financial support to immigrants living in the United States, according to Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro Sunday from Caracas, where ALBA's 14th Summit was taking place.

The resolution extends the work of a previous fund aimed at immigrants coming back from Europe, implemented a few years ago.

Cuba's President Raul Castro insisted on the importance of solidarity, “as a crucial way to grow next to the big powers that rule the world economy.”

He also criticized President-elect Donald Trump over the recent protectionist measures he implemented, saying “poverty, migrants and disasters are not contained within walls.”

As for Bolivia's President Evo Morales, he highlighted the legacy of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the importance of expanding ALBA to include more member-states.

Members of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the Group of 77 and China will be participating in the World Conference of the Peoples for a World Without Walls, expected to take place in the Bolivian capital on June 20-21.
