Events such as archery, wood cutting, blowgun, spear throwing, open water swimming, are among a variety of games that celebrate the traditions of the Indigenous communities in the South American country.

The Minister of Indigenous Affairs Yamilet Mirabal said that members from the Wayuu, Cariña, Cuiba, Chaima, Cumanagoto, Waraos, Pemon, Mapoyo, Yekuana, Eñepa, Jivi and Añu Indigenous communities are set to participate in the four-day long event.

Mirabel said these games will be represented by a giant capybara mascot that inhabits the plains of Venezuela. She added that the competitions are important to continue traditional cultures within the country, as it provides a space to “revive” and “enjoy games that are autochthonous, traditional” to Venezuela which opens up the opportunity to share these traditions and “our culture with the entire world.”
