Venezuela Begins Campaigning for Municipal Elections

According to the calendar published by the CNE, the campaign phase will be held for a period of 15 days, until Dec. 7.

Venezuelan candidates for 335 municipalities have begun their campaigns for elections to be held on Dec. 10, scheduled by the country's National Electoral Council.

According to the calendar published by the CNE, the campaign phase will be held for a period of 15 days, until Dec. 7.

The reelection for the governorship of Zulia state will also be held on Dec.10.

During this time "electoral fairs" will continue to be active, where voters can learn more about the voting process, voting centers and where to get information on the candidates and their proposals.

The Organic Law of Electoral Processes states that the electoral campaign can be developed by candidates, as well as by political parties and constituents.

Propaganda in printed or audiovisual pieces may be produced and displayed by all means available and only within the established period.

These materials must meet specifications in terms of time and editorial space.

The law states that no advertising that would harm the honor, privacy, own image, confidentiality and reputation of the people will be allowed. In addition, propaganda that promotes war, discrimination or intolerance, or promotes breaking the law will be forbidden.

Also, it prohibits advertisements that discourage the right to vote, contains obscene and demeaning expressions against public institutions and officials, that use the image, sound or the presence of children or adolescents.

It also forbids information that threatens the mental health of citizens, promotes stereotypes of gender discrimination, among others.
