Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said on Tuesday that the deployment of the US anti-aircraft defense system Thaad in South Korea increases tensions on the Korean peninsula.

"The additional factor of destabilization in the region is the increase of elements of the US anti-missile system Thaad in the territory of the Republic of Korea," he said during a meeting of the UN Security Council.

Nebenzia also indicated that the United States and its allies "seem to have tried to test North Korea's patience with undeclared military maneuvers."

He called on North Korea to suspend its nuclear tests, as well as the United States. and South Korea not to carry out large-scale exercises because they will "heat up a situation that is already explosive" in that peninsula.

The Security Council of the United Nations (UN) met on Wednesday as a matter of urgency to assess the measures they will take against North Korea for the recent launch of a missile that fell in the Sea of ​​Japan.
