The ruling by the country's National Electoral Council, or CNE, to delay the recall vote demanded by anti-government opponents of President Nicolas Maduro was greeted with enthusiasm by the workers and poor of the country, who spilled onto the streets to express their support for the country's socialist course.
The opposition has found the task of removing the elected head of state by constitutional means far harder than expected, with the CNE determining that thousands of signatures submitted for purposes of demanding a recall vote were actually fraudulent, belonging to deceased or nonexistent persons. That has likely pushed any potential vote back to 2017.
Opposition forces are also facing internal divisions and have, as a whole, grown increasingly desperate in their attempts to destabilize the country. However, signs are clear that their efforts are running out of steam as anti-government marches have grown increasingly smaller.
