The Global Rise of Xenophobia

IN PICTURES: To mark international migrants day, teleSUR looks at the global rise of xenophobia and racism.

From razor-wire borders to lethal arson attacks, the response to the global refugee crisis has been met with hate crimes and xenophobia.

In Europe, the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West, or PEGIDA, has launched a series of anti-immigrant racist marches, demanding refugees be "sent home."

In the U.S., racist rhetoric against Muslim refugees and Mexican "racists" dominated the political rhetoric of President-elect Donald Trump, with the real estate mogul promising to "build a wall" along the Mexican border.

And in the Pacific, Australia continues to keep refugees in mandatory offshore detention despite the condemnation of international human rights groups and organizations.
