Inauguration Day: Worldwide Protests Mock Trump, Denounce US Imperialism

IN PICTURES: Burning flags and anti-imperialist defiance greeted the "USA's Wretched Day" from El Salvador to the Philippines, Palestine to Europe.

The dawn of the Trump era was greeted in cities across the globe by widespread mockery, anger and trepidation as protesters took to the streets en masse to denounce the ultra-belligerent new head of state.

President Donald J. Trump swiftly rose to power on a populist platform that utilized anti-establishment rhetoric as well as anti-immigrant, racist and misogynistic bigotry, along with Islamophobic and China-bashing tropes. His message, while often hamfisted, was forceful – "Make America Great Again." If elected president, Trump promised on the campaign trail, he would restore the eroded global hegemony and faltering economy of the U.S.

President Trump remained on-message Friday, delivering an inaugural address rich with "America First" belligerence and a radically nationalist edge tailored for his overwhelmingly white support base. However, in other cities across the world Trump's inauguration invoked the wrath of workers' associations, LGBTQ and women's rights advocates, migrant justice organizations and anti-imperialist movements worldwide.

teleSUR takes a look at some of the protests occurring across the globe in reaction to the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump.
