The original statue can be seen in New York City's Central Park. Now a replica of the statue has been installed in Cuba thanks to donations from several countries.

The sculpture represents a probable scene of May 19, 1895, the day in which the Apostle fell in combat in an area of eastern Cuba known as Dos Ríos.
