As NATO intensifies its militarization at The Hague, the International Peace Forum 2025 in Brussels emerges as a beacon for global justice, advocating for disarmament, multilateral dialogue, and the defense of human dignity against the logic of war.

In a world increasingly dominated by the rhetoric of confrontation and military expansion, Brussels became the epicenter of hope and resistance on June 23 and 24, 2025. As NATO leaders convened in The Hague to reinforce military alliances and strategize new interventions, the International Peace Forum 2025 gathered more than 50 social, political, and diplomatic delegations at the heart of the European Union to demand a different path, one rooted in justice, dialogue, and human dignity.
The contrast between the two gatherings could not be more stark. While the NATO summit focused on increasing defense budgets, tactical intelligence, and nuclear deterrence, the Peace Forum called for the dismantling of military blocs and the prioritization of multilateral dialogue and disarmament.
The Forum’s participants denounced the persistent use of military might as a tool for global dominance, highlighting how such policies have only perpetuated suffering, blockades, and preemptive bombings that devastate civilian populations.
A powerful message from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, delivered by the chargé d’affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Belgium, set the tone for the Forum. “Peace must be conceived as the elimination of imbalances caused by the theft of resources, the imposition of wills, colonialist practices, and everything that violates human dignity,” Díaz-Canel declared, receiving strong support from progressive leaders like Claudia Sheinbaum and Lula da Silva. Their calls underscored the urgent need to reject the militarization of international relations and to build a new world order based on justice and cooperation.

The final declaration of this Forum for Peace calls for the lifting of the United States blockade against #Cuba 🇨🇺 and the removal of Cuba from the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
Challenging the Hegemonic Security Model
Forum delegates sharply criticized NATO’s approach, arguing that its model of security prioritizes domination over justice and has turned war into a permanent business. This narrative, they asserted, deliberately ignores the suffering of peoples subjected to sanctions and interventions while undermining the very foundations of humanitarian law and human rights.
The Peace Forum instead championed the ethical, political, and civilizational alternative: a world where conflicts are resolved through nonviolent means and international institutions are reclaimed for the defense of peace, not the perpetuation of conflict.
As the drums of war beat louder in Western capitals, the International Peace Forum 2025 stands as a testament to the enduring power of solidarity, justice, and hope. Its message is clear: another world is possible, one where peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, equality, and respect for all peoples.
