Twenty-six-year-old Luigi Mangione was arrested last Monday after being spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he is still being held in the State Correctional Institution (SCI) maximum-security prison, awaiting a possible extradition to New York, which the suspect is expected to contest.
Under the orders of Cyrus Vance Jr., was confirmed by his law firm -Agnifilo Intrater LLC-, but they said in a statement that they will not make any statements at this time.
The former prosecutor, who is also a regular legal commentator at CNN and has a legal podcast that gathers half a million listeners weekly, also worked four years as head of the trial division of the Manhattan court.
Her web-based biography details that Friedman Agnifilo played a key role in prosecuting “high-profile violent crime cases,” including those related to mental health and homicide.
Manhattan prosecutors have begun presenting evidence to a grand jury to determine whether there is enough evidence to charge someone.
The police are planning to charge him with first-degree premeditated murder, although he is currently facing second-degree charges, the latter being a charge that usually applies in cases of homicide of policemen, babies or serial killers. The final decision on charges is made by the district attorney’s office.
