Havana International Book Fair to Host 400 Guests from Over 40 Countries

The Havana International Book Fair is set to welcome 400 guests from more than 40 countries, offering an estimated 2.4 million books during its upcoming edition, scheduled to take place from February 13 to 23, organizers announced on Tuesday.

Highlights of the 33rd Edition

  • South Africa will be the guest country of honor at this year’s fair.
  • The event will pay tribute to Cuban writer Virgilio López Lemus and researcher Francisca López Civeira.
  • The official theme for 2025 is “A Whole Country in Books.”

As in previous years, after concluding in Havana on February 23, the book fair will travel to different provinces across Cuba.

Challenges & Expectations

  • According to Juan Rodríguez, president of the organizing committee and the Cuban Book Institute, the 2024 edition sold 1.3 million books, falling short of the 3-million official target.
  • For 2025, the fair will introduce 1,300 new releases, including both digital and physical books.
  • Rodríguez acknowledged the economic crisis in Cuba, stating: “The book supply is not what we want, but it is what we can offer.”

In previous editions, the fair was dedicated to Brazil (2024), Colombia (2023), and Mexico (2022).
