Haiti: Bandits Hunt Police in Anti-gang Crackdown

The death of a Haitian National Police officer named Michelle Nathalnielle Megine on 28 August is also under investigation.
On Friday, bandits in Haiti shoot police and military officers after hours in response to the officers’ offensive against gangs.

In a communiqué from the Haitian National Police, it was reported that officer Wisly Villefranche, of the Port-au-Prince Intervention Brigade, was killed by criminals on Magloire Ambroise Street.
This attack, according to media reports, is a response by criminal groups to operations against banditry in neighborhoods such as Bel-Air, Solino and Bas Delmas.
Meanwhile, investigations continue into the death of 32-year-old Haitian Armed Forces soldier Roody Octavius, who was shot dead by armed individuals in Vivy Mitchel, Pétion-Ville, in the capital.
Octavius was unable to react to the surprise attack, and his assailants took his body with them, according to the Haiti Libre online newspaper.

So far, her colleagues have only arrested her sister and brother-in-law for allegedly being responsible for Megine’s murder.
The officer belonged to the 28th promotion and was on her way to her patrol area here in Port-au-Prince, but the bandits intercepted her vehicle and opened fire without giving her time to react.
According to the National Union of Haitian Policemen – quoted by the daily Le Facteur Haiti – no less than 13 bullet holes were found in her car.
