As a result of the meeting, they agreed to deepen joint work aimed at promoting cultural and media collaboration to enrich the Arab countries’ understanding of the diversity of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
In this regard, the parties agreed, in the first place, to include more news generated by teleSUR on the GZF web page in Arabic.
They also agreed to produce podcasts from teleSUR’s News Production Centers in Havana (Cuba) and Caracas (Venezuela). GZF will provide logistical support, while the Latin American media will provide the technological infrastructure.
As a last commitment, the parties decided to promote the teaching of the Arabic language online, in groups of journalists both in Havana and Caracas, from the platforms and applications provided by GZF for this purpose.
The links between GZF and teleSUR were established through a macro collaboration agreement, signed by the presidents of both institutions. It’s main objective is to “promote the development of the culture of the peoples of the Global South, and in particular, the development of ties and understanding between the peoples of the Arab world and Latin America and the Caribbean.”
To achieve this purpose, the parties are called to elaborate programs and projects of joint cooperation including the exchange of professionals and experts, information and mutual consultancies; the formation and improvement of journalistic teams in the knowledge of the Arab and Latin American and Caribbean cultures; development of research; offers of programs, courses, seminars, conferences, workshops and others; as well as the publication of activities to achieve the objectives of the agreement.
Alshebani and Villegas have met on other occasions to evaluate the development and implementation of the agreement, which has a duration of five years, extendable if the parties express their willingness to continue collaborating.
