Russia is defending itself against an attack of the United States carried out through Ukraine, he pointed out.
On Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that “fantasies” about sending Western troops to Ukraine only worsen the ongoing conflict.

“All these fantasies only aggravate the situation and show that the people proposing such ideas stubbornly refuse to heed the very clear warnings that President Vladimir Putin has publicly made on numerous occasions,” Lavrov said after participating in a ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Regarding peace initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, the head of Russian diplomacy stated that they must include “security issues and matters related to human rights,” referring to the Russian-speaking community in Ukraine.
“All those initiatives that our partners propose with good intentions on different continents aim to find a political solution, but of course, they must take into account the security interests of each country and respect for human rights,” Lavrov said, adding that Russia does not want to attack anyone but is defending itself against an attack by the United States, carried out through Ukraine.
“We do not want to attack anyone. It is the United States that has attacked us now through the Ukrainian regime,” the Russian diplomat said, adding that Washington arms Ukrainians and helps them bomb Russian territory with long-range weapons.
This week, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock did not rule out the possibility that Berlin could contribute troops to a hypothetical peace mission after a ceasefire has been declared in Ukraine.
Commenting on reports about the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent “is impossible without the consent of both parties” to the conflict.
