Venezuela Vows to Attend Summit of the Americas

The Government of Venezuela has rejected the decision made by Peru's authorities to withdraw the invitation of President Nicolás Maduro to the Summit of the Americas, to be held in April, noting that the regulations of being a host country do not give Peru the power to decide whether a Head of State is allowed to participate or not.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry sent a letter to the Peruvian Foreign Ministry to denounce that "in the current regulations there are no attributions in any way to the Republic of Peru, or any other state giving it the power to decide on the participation of a Member State and founder in any of the meetings of the Summits of the Americas. "

The Foreign Ministry further stated that according to these premises, the recent statements by high representatives of the Peruvian State, reveal a notable ignorance of the corresponding regulations and their effects.
