Thanks to a brace netted by Mexican forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Bayer Leverkusen won 3-0 against Bundesliga rival Hannover on Saturday, various news outlets reported.
This was Chicharito's second brace in 2016, after scoring twice in a friendly match in Florida against Brazilian team Porto Alegre on Jan. 13.
With Saturday's victory, Leverkusen moves up to fourth place with 31 points, three behind Hertha Berlin, which has 34. At the top of the Bundesliga table is Bayern Munich with 49, followed by Borussia Dortmund, 44.
Chicharito scored in minutes 62 and 87. His second goal was a penalty after a foul by Hiroki Sakai on Stefan Kiessling.
Hannover is languishing at the bottom of the table with only 14 points.
Hernandez now has 13 goals in 16 Bundesliga games, however he has a whopping 27 goals in different competitions and matches with Leverkusen, which he joined in September after a long stint on the benches of Real Madrid and Manchester United, who failed to see and take advantage of the Mexican's keen eye for goals.
According to stats by Transfer Markt, Chicharito's performance so far this 2015-2016 season include six Champions League goals, two more in Champions League Qualification matches, one Premier League goal and two more in the German DFB-Pokal Cup.
Chicharito's stellar performance has prompted the interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Liverpool who want him as early as this month and who are prepared to pay at least US$30 million for his transfer.
Next Saturday, Chicharito fans and opponents alike can watch him play in a crucial match against Bayer Munich at 12:30 p.m. local time.
