Mets will try to advance to their first World Series since 1986, while the Cubs will attempt to do same for the first time since 1945.

Now it was the New York Mets' as they advance to next stage for the first time since 2006. They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night in Game 5 with a 3-2 scoreboard at the Californian's team stadium to take the National League Division Series and go on the NL Championship Series.

So the Mets will try to advance to their first World Series since 1986 beginning this Saturday night at their Citi Field stadium against the Chicago Cubs, who will give their best to reach their first MLB championship since 1945 with hopes of snatching their first title since 1908.

New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey will face off Jon Lester in Game 1.

Opener Jacob deGrom had a fantastic evening limiting the Dodgers to two hits in 13 times at bat, while allowing a walk with runners in scoring position.

Yet, the hero of the night was Daniel Murphy because he was responsible for all three of the Mets' runs, including a home run in the six inning off a pitch by Zack Greinke.

"That was as impressive a start for Jake than the first night because he could've let it get away from him," said Murphy. The second-baseman connected a total of three homers in the series against the Dodgers.

"He bears down, ends up going six. Worked in and out of situations all night. Hands it over to Noah, who was throwing a thousand. Then Jeurys getting six-out save ... it was awesome," said of deGrom.

Baseball fans were anxious coming into Game 5 expecting to see a spectacular duel between deGrom and Greinke, and although they weren't completely let down, they did not see the epic battle that was predicted.

DeGrom began the game chaotically, allowing four straight hits that gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead. This first inning made the following five torture for the Mets pitcher.

The New York's team manager Terry Collins felt the need to visit the mound on various occasions and according to sports commentators it would have been justified to remove deGrom, but the manager decided the pep talk would be sufficient.

General Manager Sandy Alderson, who was doused by players with champagne, said of his manager: "Terry did a masterful job tonight."

And so when deGrom finally departed the field, he did so with the lead, for which, according to Yahoo Sports, could be thanks to Murphy, because he connected the homer that game the Mets the advantage prompting their bullpen to erupt in euphoric celebration.
