Under the slogan “We Are Peoples Weaving Networks,” the Coloquio Patria will take place from March 17 to 19, aiming to deepen the role of digital content and platforms in social mobilization and political configuration.
This edition of the colloquium commemorates two significant milestones: the 20th anniversary of the multi-state channel teleSUR, founded by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, and the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication at the University of Havana.
Sponsored by the Cuban Journalists’ Union, in collaboration with Casa de las Américas and the Hermanos Saíz Association, this event provides a space for communicators, academics, politicians, and activists to reflect on the opportunities and challenges posed by technopolitics. The Coloquio Patria is part of the Day of Cuban Press celebrations and pays tribute to the journalistic legacy of José Martí.
The program includes conferences, panels, and workshops that address new possibilities for social interaction in a context marked by misinformation and polarized discourse. Attendees will have the opportunity to actively participate in debates on how digital platforms can be effective tools for social mobilization and political participation.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has emphasized the importance of Coloquio Patria in promoting peace in a world affected by conflicts. The event seeks to counteract information manipulation and foster constructive dialogue in an increasingly complex environment.
In a world where digital networks can serve as both empowerment tools and means of manipulation, Coloquio Patria stands as a crucial space for reflecting on the future of communication and politics. By bringing together experts and activists from around the globe, this event promotes necessary dialogue to build a more inclusive and equitable future. Thus, “We Are Peoples Weaving Networks” becomes a call to action for all those seeking a more informed and just society.
