Gymnast Aly Raisman is suing the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and USA Gymnastics over decades of sexual abuse by former national team doctor Larry Nassar, it has been announced.

"I refuse to wait any longer for these organizations to do the right thing. It is my hope that the legal process will hold them accountable and enable the change that is so desperately needed," Raisman said in a statement on Friday.
Filed on on Wednesday in California state court in Santa Clara County, the lawsuit stipulates that the USOC and USA Gymnastics could have intervened in Nassar's countless cases of sexual abuse, but never did.
Raisman, who said in November she was sexually abused by the former doctor, says she still suffers from "depression, anxiety and fear" because of it.
Last month, Nassar was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison for sexual abuse. More than 150 women and girls spoke out against him during the trial.
Nassar worked closely with the U.S. Olympic women's gymnastics teams, young athletes at Michigan State and a private gymnastics club.
The ex-doctor also pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in federal court, for which he was sentenced, in December, to 60 years in prison.
