Around 80 social and political organizations, among them the Free Lula National Committee and the Popular Brazil Front, have called people to take the streets of Sao Paulo, and other cities of Brazil, to claim for the freedom of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The demonstration starting point is the headquarters of the Metalworkers Union ABC, in Sao Paulo, at 6 p.m. local time, and has been called to demand the liberation of Lula, during the International Day for Human Rights. There will also be other demonstrations throughout the country.
The organizers say that Lula is deprived of his liberty unjustly and without proof that he is guilty. In the Twitter account of the former union leader, appears the call: "Write on the agenda: on the 10th, is the day of taking the streets for the freedom of Lula."
"We will do solidarity activities for President Lula in every country on the 10th and we call on society to mobilize against this unjust process that persecuted and caught on to our greater political leadership," said Joao Paulo Rodrigues, from the Rural Landless Workers' Movement (MST).
"Write on the agenda: on the 10th, is the day of taking the streets for the freedom of Lula."
The notice indicates that acts of solidarity will be carried out by social movements throughout the national geography and there will be dialogues with society about the injustice committed against the former president. Several actions will be made, to increase the national and international alert on the unjust imprisonment of Lula and demand his freedom.
For eight months, Lula has been in prison at the headquarters of the Federal Police of Curitiba, in the southern state of Paraná, accused of alleged acts of corruption during his term (2003-2010). The founder of the PT always stated his innocence and has pushed back on the attacks against him, condemning them as a farce and as political persecution.
