The U.S. decision goes beyond international trade norms, China points out.
On Tuesday, amid escalating U.S. pressure against Iran, the Chinese government declared that it will firmly oppose the tariffs imposed by Washington on countries that maintain trade relations with Tehran.

China Urges Stability in Iran and Rejects Foreign Interference
The U.S. measure provides for a 25% tariff on any transaction with the Persian country for nations that continue to trade with Iran, directly affecting strategic partners such as China, the world’s largest buyer of Iranian oil and a significant investor in sectors such as infrastructure, energy and technology.
According to the Chinese government, the U.S. decision goes beyond international trade norms and constitutes a form of economic coercion.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stressed that there are no winners in tariff wars and that the country will firmly protect its legitimate and legal rights and interests. This stance is not only a defense of trade but also an affirmation of sovereignty and respect for international norms.
“China’s position on the tariff issue is very clear: there are no winners in a tariff war, and China will resolutely protect its legitimate and legal rights and interests,” the government spokesperson emphasized.
China also repudiates any interference in the internal affairs of other countries and condemns the use or threat of force in international relations, emphasizing the need for all parties to contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East.
With this, Beijing reinforces not only its commitment to Iran but also its defense of a model of international cooperation based on dialogue and mutual respect, as Mao Ning stated.
“China opposes interference in the internal affairs of other countries and the use, or threat of use, of force in international affairs.”
Mao Ning also noted that the Chinese government is closely monitoring developments in Iran and will take all necessary measures to protect the security of its citizens in the Persian country, amidst internal and external tensions. Furthermore, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, reinforced Beijing’s position:
“China firmly opposes any illegal unilateral sanctions and far-reaching jurisdiction, and will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. Tariff wars and trade wars have no winners, and coercion and pressure do not solve problems. Protectionism harms the interests of all parties.”
This statement highlights that Chinese resistance to tariffs shows that China’s response to U.S. tariff threats is direct and extends to other diplomatic and financial bodies in the country, confirming that China considers the use of tariffs as a pressure tool a threat to the norms of global trade, reinforcing Beijing’s institutional stance towards Washington.
U.S. and Israeli interference and funding lead to violence; people take to the streets to defend their government.
Iranian authorities have classified the protests against the government as a result of direct interference and funding of opposition groups financed by the United States, Israel, and Western allies, which, according to Tehran, seek to destabilize the country and undermine its sovereignty.
Authorities claim that some protesters resorted to violence against security forces and public infrastructure, while the pro-government population mobilized en masse to defend national sovereignty.
The government claims that the situation is “under total control” and characterizes some demonstrations as support for national sovereignty and opposition to foreign interference. According to Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, events in several cities were classified by state media as a “popular mobilization against American-Zionist terrorism.”
Images and broadcasts on official channels showed tens of thousands of Iranians marching with national flags, rejecting the intervention of foreign powers and expressing support for state institutions.
The pro-government demonstrations were recorded in cities such as Tehran, Kerman, Zahedan, and Birjand, with participants publicly highlighting the need for national unity and rejection of external interference. Iranian state media described these mobilizations as a sign of cohesion and solidarity in defense of sovereignty.
